Measure Of Success

Oral Health

The major indicator for this measure of success is the percent of children without untreated tooth decay.

However, this data is not available for the State of Tennessee. We will continue to advocate for better data systems and transparency in the early care and education sector in Tennessee. In the meantime, we have established a proxy indicator:

The proxy indicator for this measure of success is the number of licensed, practicing dentists by county of practice…listed as a rate per 100,000 resident population.

Statewide average in Tennessee (2021): 43.1 dentists per 100,000 residents across TN.

The number of licensed, practicing dentists by county of practice. Only dentists with “Active Licensed” status practicing in Tennessee are considered. State data include the number of dentists with missing practice state and/or practice county.

Data Source:

Tennessee Department of Health.

The KIDS COUNT division of the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth compiled/analyzed data and calculated rates. Estimates of population by county were collected from the Division of Vital Records and Statistics, Tennessee Department of Health. Data beyond year 2012 were computed from Health Professional Licensing Reports.
