Generation PMTO

What is it?

Generation PMTO is an evidence-based intervention program that helps strengthen families. The program promotes effective family management skills to address and reduce the development of moderate to severe conduct problems in children and youth. During the group sessions, the Generation PMTO therapist teaches and coaches parents on effective discipline practices, positive reinforcement, monitoring behavior, identifying and regulating emotions, giving clear directions, tracking behavior, and promoting school success. Sessions are delivered in group and individual family formats and usually once a week.

What is the evidence base?

Children that participate in Generation PMTO experience a decrease in delinquency, deviant peer associations, depression, and early onset police arrests. Mothers that participate experience improvements in income, occupation, education, and financial stress. In general, parents show improvements in positive parenting and a decrease in parent stress.
