Bright Start TN Clearinghouse
Strategy
The Head Start Research-based Developmentally Informed Parent Program (REDI-P) provides home visits before and after kindergarten transition to sustain pre-K gains. Parents receive 10 home visits during the spring of the pre-K year and six additional sessions after the start of kindergarten. During these home visits, REDI-P provides parents with books, learning games, and pretend play materials to use with their children to reinforce and extend the benefits of the Head Start REDI.
Children in REDI-P demonstrate significant improvements in literacy skills, academic performance, self-directed learning, and social competence. Parents who receive the REDI-P intervention read more interactively with their children and have longer and more frequent conversations with their children.
