Pre-K RECAP

What is it?

Pre-K RECAP (Reaching Educators, Children, and Parents) is a school-based intervention program for pre-K students with emotional and behavioral problems. Pre-K RECAP focuses on improving child behaviors by promoting social skills, emotional regulation, and problem-solving. Children in the program receive training in social skills, emotional recognition, self-control, problem-solving, and relaxation strategies. The program is led by teachers who conduct classroom lessons two to three times a week. Pre-K RECAP also includes weekly site-based teacher training and bi-weekly parent group training. Both teacher and parent training emphasize positive reinforcement of prosocial behavior, appropriate use of punishment, clear communication and expectations, and strengthening of adult-child relationships.

What is the evidence base?

Children in Pre-K RECAP show improvements in social skills and internalizing and externalizing problem behaviors.
